Puddles of water left from the rain were seen on the yard of Ndalem Darmopuspitan when we arrived, creating a melancholic reflection of light under the sunset sky. The building adopts an Indische style with a large front yard. We didn't realize when but a feeling of longing had sneaked into our hearts; some kind of old memories of grandma's house.
Stepping inside, our eyes were instantly fascinated by classic Javanese furniture with bright green seats in the living room. It created a contrast against the dark grey tiles. The melancholic feeling vanished only in seconds. Behind the living room, there's a living area with LED TV, and a dining area. All rooms are non-partitioned, making them feel large yet close. It's perfect for the whole family and group to chat and share stories.
The bedrooms come with wooden windows with grids for better air circulation. Vintage iron windowsills decorate the windows while also securing them. The vintage aura seen in the windows and furniture is contrasted by exposed brick wall and a modern touch reflected through the linens. Cool! Each room comes with private bathroom. The design is comparable to that of star hotels, making them look luxurious in a touch of industrial style.
Ndalem Darmopuspitan has 5 bedrooms; three are with large-size beds, 1 with a twin bed, and 1 with 3 single beds. The owner also provides additional mattresses for free, making the guest house capable of accommodating a total of 20 persons. Every morning, you'll be served with different menu for breakfast. You can just choose between fried rice, pecel (vegetable salad in peanut sauce), or yams.
The guest house is also equipped with a large kitchen with complete kitchen utensils. Having been aware of the owner's art taste, we have guessed that the backsplash would have been made of classic patchwork tiles. Our guess wasn't wrong; still, we liked how the combination turned out.
Unlike most guest houses, Ndalem Darmopuspitan is not located in a crowded housing compound but in a green village with shady trees. About 10 minutes from the guest house, you can find Taman Pelangi, the popular night amusement park. If you feel like visiting Borobudur Temple, you can just head northwest. You can also find a shortcut to Kaliurang via Turi.
The only thing you might consider a flaw is that the guest house is 7 km away from Malioboro. However, with such plus values (cool interior, large space, and affordable rate for a total capacity of 20 persons), the "flaw" is just something you can easily forgive. After all, you wouldn't go to Malioboro every day, right?
