10 New Spots in Kulonprogo 2015

Waterfalls, kedung (pools), and the view of high peaks are also there, sitting quietly within. In these 10 new tourist destinations, many things are there, waiting for you. So, drive up, enjoy the beauty and conquer the exciting adventure inside.

1. Gunung Lanang Summit

Don't be confused, there are indeed two places in Kulon Progo called Gunung Lanang (gunung lanang literally means male mountain in Javanese). The first Gunung Lanang is situated near Glagah Beach, often referred to as Astana Jingga or Badraloka Mandira. The other one, the one we're talking about, is situated in Jatimulyo Village, Girimulyo, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, right on the side of Jalan Goa Kiskendo. Gunung Lanang of Jatimulyo is one of the summits in Menoreh Hills used as a watchplace to see the green scenery of Jogja's western-most region. From the top, you can also vaguely see the waves of Indian Ocean breaking in the south. To enjoy those landscape, you have to climb a lot of stairs. 2. Kedung Pedut

Three terraced pools come into view. The water is clear blue. Installed bamboo bridges act as a decoration to the place. Kedung Pedut (kedung means pool in Javanese), just like its name, has cheerfulness stored behind the mist. There you can swim and play to your heart's content and do some exciting activities, like canyoning. Being a natural waterpark, the pools will make us lost in excitement. 3. Taman Sungai Mudal

Not far from Kedung Pedut, there's a beautiful river park, Taman Sungai Mudal (taman sungai means river park in Indonesian). Packed with various type of plants, including a rare endemic orchid, this river park looks outstandingly enchanting. Not only you can relax in the small huts provided, but you can also swim in the pools and try canyoning (by bringing your own equipment) in the terraced waterfall. If you wish to enjoy the river park's atmosphere longer, set your tent up and stay overnight. There is a secure camping area with sufficient facilities. 4. Kidang Kencana Cave

The thrill of caving can be experienced by going down the Kidang Kencana Cave, Kulon Progo. A hole with a diameter of 2 meter will take you inside and meet Langkit Kuntoro, Ringin Kurung, Bulus, Pancoran Manik and Candi Sewu, as well as some other stalagmites and stalactites. Although the cave is relatively new, the management has already provided sufficient security equipment for brief caving session to as deep as 350 meters into this exotic cave. 5. Gunung Gajah Observation Watchtower

Kalibiru Tourist Village is not the only place to view the bends of the beautiful Sermo Reservoir in the middle of Menoreh Hills. Head to Hargotirto, towards Gunung Gajah watchtower. 6. Kleco Mini Reservoir

Kleco Mini Reservoir is located in Ngesong Village, Giripurwo, Girimulyo, Kulon Progo. Situated in one of the hill tops in Menoreh Hills, the mini reservoir serves a lovely view of the green Kulon Progo. 7. Nglinggo Tourist Village

Exploring Samigaluh area, you'll see the overlay of shrubs from the genus Camellia, or known more as tea plants, extending vastly at an altitude of 900-1000 meters above sea level. That's Nglinggo Tea Plantation located in Nglinggo Tourist Village. In this plantation, you can walk around the tea plantation (tea walking), camping and savoring the uniqueness of sangit tea (tea with the smell of smoke from the traditional method of roasting), the typical beverage of the village. 8. Widosari Summit, Samigaluh

Widosari Summit is situated in Tritis Village, Ngargosari, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo, just 10 minutes driving from the small tea plantation, Tritis. 9. Kukusan and Kendeng Summit

In the beginning of 2015, another summit has become an idol among the youths in Kulon Progo, Jogja. Located near Nglinggo area, Kukusan Summit serves magnificent natural scenery that refreshes your mind. Rows of tea plantation and pine forest extend in front of your eyes, taking you to experience the beauty of the emerald in the west side of Jogja. Just a step away from the Kukusan Summit, there's Kendeng Summit, rivaling the fame. Kendeng Summit also serves green and cool natural scenery of Kulon Progo. 10. Embung Banjaroya

Located in Banjaroya Village, Kalibawang, Kulon Progo, there's an Embung (embung means small man-made lake in Javanese) with its icon, a giant durian statue. Though its main purpose is for watering the Menoreh durian plantation around it, local people often visit the place for sightseeing. From there, the typical cool and calm green scenery of Kulon Progo can be seen freely. In the morning, thin mist appears, hanging on the hill tops around it.
