Jogja also has a public space in the form of wide fields at the front the back of the palace which is called Alun-Alun (city square). Alun-Alun Utara is located exactly in front of the Palace of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. This place usually becomes a place to interact for both the locals and tourists visiting Jogja. Alun-Alun Utara is also often set as a place to hold art performances and annual occasions such as Sekaten (a traditional celebration in Jogja and Central Java for commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW). In the afternoon, you can enjoy a calm dusk ambience while watching as the sun slowly hides behind the twin banyan trees in the center of the city square.
