ROBERT ANTONIUS - Rock Climber and Guardian of Siung Beach

"Very tempting," comments Robert Antonius. He was not commenting on sexy girls, but on the steep cliffs of Siung Beach. He had climbed many cliffs in Java, Sumatera, and Sulawesi, but the cliffs of Siung Beach are the ones that he constantly long for.

Robert Antonius, a Surabaya-born male who has a firm body, is a rock climbing fan. "If I don't climb, it feels like that something is missing. That is why I must climb at least once a month. To Siung Beach, for sure." He started rock climbing when he was in third grade junior high school, invited by his older brothers. It turns out that this rock climbing activity acted positively towards reducing his naughty behaviour. "So my parents were happy when I came home from these outdoor activities on a Sunday night, it is better than me spending the whole Saturday night doing unclear activities at the neighbourhood watch post," remembers Robert.

For this man, rock climbing is not only an outdoor sport, but also an activity that can build up self confidence, healthy personality, and peaceful mental state. He also says that rock climbing is one of his most important activities that is useful not only for his future, but also to solve many problems he faces. As a father of one son, he told YogYES that one day, his son too should master the skills of rock climbing. He is fortunate enough to have a wife who also does rock climbing.

Since 2005, he began to promote the cliffs of Siung Beach as a rock climbing site. At the same time, he also wants to keep Siung Beach natural, with the life of the seashore locals unchanged, so that this climbing site can always be a world-class attraction. "This is what makes foreign climbers love this place. The view of Siung Beach is breathtaking, and it is not overcrowded. That is why they are comfortable to stay here long." When asked what he gets from this outdoor activity, Robert Antonius confidently answered, "seeing the world from above."
